Safety Data Sheets for each cleaning chemical, allergenic chemical, and other hazardous chemical in the office are gathered and stored in an accessible location.

COVID and Other Communicable Diseases

Written policy [1] that meets Standard Precautions and provides protections against occupational exposure to infectious diseases.

Fire Safety Standard

Portable fire extinguishers are mounted and readily accessible at a minimum of 1 for every 3,000 square feet and no less than 100 feet from any location in the office.

Fire extinguishers are properly identified (with a sign or signs).

Employees have been properly educated on fire extinguisher location and use both immediately upon hire and annually thereafter.

Identify in writing and fully train employees permitted to use fire extinguishers in the event of a fire.

Written procedures in place to ensure proper cleaning and maintenance of heat-producing equipment to minimize the risk of overheating and fire (i.e., x-ray machines, electrical instruments/devices, printers, computers).

Flammable materials (i.e., cleaning supplies, x-ray chemicals, etc.) are properly stored and locations are labeled “Flammable-Keep Away from Open Flames.”

Fire extinguishers are visually inspected monthly to ensure they are present and identified, pins have not slipped from placement, do not show signs of corrosion on hoses and/or attachments, are fully charged, and are not expired (documenting suggested).

An annual maintenance check has been performed on all fire extinguishers, and a written record is created and maintained until the next maintenance or until the unit is replaced (whichever is sooner). Consider using a certified technician.

First Aid Kits and Standard Precautions

Conduct a risk assessment to understand what types of injuries could reasonably be expected to happen in your workplace. Consider factors such as the nature of your practice, the types of patients you treat, and any past incidents that have occurred in your office.

Based on the risk assessment, determine the appropriate number of first aid kits (no less than one) appropriate for your practice based on employee numbers, density, office size, and geography.

First aid kits are easily accessible in the office OR an infirmary, hospital, or clinic (prepared to provide emergency workplace injury aid) is located within 3-4 minutes.

First aid kits on site contain the OSHA-recommended items including the following minimum items: adhesive bandages, adhesive tape, antibiotic application, antiseptic, breathing barrier, burn dressing, burn treatment, cold pack, eye covering, first aid guide, hand sanitizer, medical exam gloves, eye/skin wash, roller bandage, scissors, sterile pads, trauma pads, and triangular bandages (inspected annually).

The office has the minimum number of exits, and all exits meet the required minimum standards for fire safety and exit markings.

All employees have been trained on emergency action plan and exit routes and action plan is provided orally if you have 10 or fewer employees, or action plan is in writing if you have more than 10 employees.
